Happy to have a concert coming up in Portland with my Imaginary Ensemble! Hope you can join us for an evening of exploratory jazz and new-music-inflected compositions and improvisations.
We'll be ranging far and wide—with funk-flavored explorations of deep space and "gravitational hum", some durable straight-ahead jazz—and we'll even weave in a bit of 1820s sublimity via an excerpt from Beethoven's final composition (his last string quartet), in my (possibly blasphemous!) custom arrangement for our ensemble.
Delighted to have these great musicians in the band:
Carl Dimow, flutes; Frank Mauceri, saxophones; Scott Kiefner, bass; John Mettam, drums; Richard Nelson, guitar and compositions.
Apohadion Theater 107 Hanover St Portland, Maine
Doors open at 6:30, we'll play one set starting at 7:00. Tickets are at the door, $10-$20, or whatever you can.
It's a double bill with the wonderfully creative Bedlam and Eunoia ensemble— genre-bending jazz mixed with world music, odd meters, classical, and film score influence.
Would be great to see you there!
